Australian Sailing welcomes Lawson Dixon as the new General Manager for Western Australia

Published Mon 25 Jul 2022

Australian Sailing pleased to announce the successful recruitment of Lawson Dixon as our new General Manager for Western Australia.

Lawson Dixon is a business and marketing executive, turned sports management professional. As a sailor, Lawson started in dinghies and progressed into beach cats, then keelboats learning the hard way as rail-meat on half-tonner Screw Loose, before being trusted with a piece of string, eventually progressing to the foredeck on Young 11, Kaimai Flyer.

A stint in Asia had him landlocked for a while, before rediscovering his sea-legs: A couple of Hong Kong to Vietnam yacht races and various regattas in Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, reignited his thirst for the water. It was during this time that Lawson became involved with Corsair Marine International and was the catalyst for this storied boat builder relocating production from San Diego to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He was CEO of the company, responsible for sales and marketing during the uncertainty of the GFC – a period in which Corsair thrived.

For personal reasons, Lawson relocated to Perth with his family in early 2017 and fell in love with Western Australia. Prior to joining Australian Sailing, he was General Manager of the Western Australian Speedway Commission, responsible for safety, governance, and training for 27 speedway tracks, 16 racing divisions, hundreds of officials, and thousands of participants from Esperance to Kununurra. Lawson is also a passionate motorcyclist and runs the national mental health charity, Black Dog Ride.

Lawson commenced his new role with Australian Sailing on the 18th July 2022 and his the ground running. Over the coming weeks and months Lawson will be doing his best to meet the sailing community of WA and look to engage in active discussions with clubs, class associations and partner stakeholders to grow participation and club membership.
