The annual Diggers' Cup Race was held at Royal Perth Yacht Club on Anzac Day 2019

Published Mon 29 Apr 2019

78 boats, all different designs, spread across a 65-minute start line and time, to culminate in a spectacular finish. This years’ Royal Perth Yacht Club Diggers Cup achieved this with the top three just four seconds apart. 16 boats finished in the first 10 minutes and everyone within 35 minutes.

Part celebration to honour those service men and women of the ANZAC’s, past and present, for they are the reason we have the privilege to do what we enjoy doing today. The other is to close out the summer season, party style.

The finish was so close that both Mark Hannaford’s S97 ‘Déjà Vu’ and Brien Hennessy aboard the much bigger Beneteau Oceanis 411 ‘Aida’ thought each other had won. The results cleared it up with ‘Déjà Vu’ first, ‘Aida’ second and Ian Ball’s ‘Adams Family’ in third, all two seconds apart. A top trio result with four minutes till fourth place.
