Course Overview
The State Umpire Seminar is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members in advanced principles to conduct consistent and fair Teams or Match Racing championships.
To become accredited as an Australian Sailing State Umpire you are required to:
- Be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
- Attend an Australian Sailing State Umpire Seminar.
- Passed the State Umpire Exam with a State level score or more.
- Provide a log showing you have acted as an Umpire in four or more Teams or Match racing events
- Complete an Umpires Performance Assessment.
If you wish to accredit via submitting prior evidence that meets the above requirements please complete the State Umpire Accreditation Application Form. When completing the form please upload any Word, Excel or other documents in PDF format.
Registration at the top of this page allows you to enrol in an available Accreditation Seminar.
Attendees are asked to bring to the seminar:
- Their online edition of the Racing Rules of Sailing.
- Notepad and pen (or lap top/notebook).
Course Prerequisites
There are no pre-requisites for participation in this seminar. However, attendance at the Australian Sailing Umpires Seminar is just one aspect of becoming a State Umpire.

The cost of the seminar is $155.00 (The Officials polo is no longer provided).

The State Umpire Seminar is suitable for people aspiring to officiate Teams or Match Racing championships or become senior Umpires. Those who may be interested in becoming an State Umpire include parents, Club volunteers and sailors who enjoy the intricacies and interpretations associated with the Racing Rules of Sailing and can make quick and timely decisions in boat on boat incidents.
Course Outcome
Participants will become accredited as a State Umpire; an individual capable of being an Umpiring Team Leader, with an in depth knowledge of all facets of the game.
