Club Coaching Programs – A membership retention and growth strategy.

The benefits of using coaching and mentoring are significant. Club coaching programs are both a member recruitment and a member retention strategy. It provides a means of connection, learning and belonging as well as pathways, if it is conducted in an efficient and productive manner. Pairing experienced coaches with up and coming sailors supports them in the environment and can give guidance on personal development for the future.

Queensland COVID Safe Sailing – STAGE 3

From Friday 3rd July 2020 the Stage 3 requirements under the Queensland Government’s “Roadmap to easing Queensland’s restrictions - A step-down approach to COVID-19” will take effect. Australian Sailing welcomes these relaxations and thanks the Queensland Government for providing the framework.

I regrettably inform our Queensland sailing community that our Australian Sailing North Queensland Club Services Officer Mathew Himson has submitted his resignation. Mat has played a very active role in our North Queensland Sailing Community for the last number of years and since September 2019 as a Club Services Officer.

Are too few doing too much?

Since COVID-19 has rocked our world, Club Services Officers have been checking in with club committee members and most of them are sighing with relief at the break that COVID-19 is providing them with.  One said this was the first break he’s had for ten years from an every weekend commitment to his club. Another was just grateful to be able to focus on other projects and not think about the running of the club.

“The Associations Incorporation Act 1981 requires an association’s annual general meeting (AGM) to be held within 6 months of the end of their financial year. There is an existing provision in the Act (s. 121) that allows the chief executive to grant an extension to an association for holding its AGM.

Qld Regional Managers Update April 2020

Wow, what a change a few weeks can make to how we all live our lives. No one would have thought this is how the year 2020 would have played out. So many big changes, so many big challenges and so many opportunities for better or worse. I must say it is encouraging to see how our sailing community has handled this crisis. All clubs have responded assertively with proactive measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
